Tecnica Mach1 HV 120

The Tecnica Mach1 HV 120 is a 103mm-last, 120-flex overlap boot built around a wide, high-volume foot — and that last width is the whole story here. Tecnica's C.A.S. (Custom Adaptive Shape) shell is dimpled on purpose: those small depressions reduce surface tension so the boot responds faster and more evenly when you put it through a heat-mold session at 80°C. The result is a shell that wraps a wide foot securely without the dead spots you get when you stuff a broad forefoot into a narrower last and just crank the buckles. Speaking of which, four micro-adjustable aluminum buckles with Lift Lock closures let you dial in instep and ankle pressure independently — the quick instep design means entry is less of a fight in cold parking lots. The Performance C.A.S. liner with Celliant fiber is thermo-formable by shop heat or even body heat over time, and the bi-injected cuff carries Tecnica's T-Drive carbon connector, which stiffens the lateral spine without killing torsional give. At flex 120 and a 12° forward lean, power transfer is direct: you drive into a turn and the boot responds — not instantly forgiving, but honest. GripWalk rockered soles are standard, so walking to the lift is manageable, though there is no dedicated walk/hike mode mechanism.

This boot is aimed at advanced to expert skiers — stronger legs, active technique, typically 160 lbs and up — who also happen to have a wide forefoot, high instep, or generally high-volume foot. If you ski hard and have always fought blisters or pressure points in average-last boots, the HV 120 is worth a serious try-on. That said, be honest with yourself on two counts. First, flex: 120 is stiff, and if you are an intermediate skier or on the lighter end, that stiffness will work against you — you will not bend the boot properly and the ski will not load correctly, leading to fatigue and frustration. The Mach1 HV 95 or 105 flex options exist for that reason. Second, foot shape: if your foot is actually average- or narrow-volume, a 103mm last will let your foot move around inside regardless of how tight you pull the buckles — that means pressure points, not precision. The MV 120 at 100mm or the LV 120 at 97mm are the right calls in that case. Come in for a proper fitting; we measure both feet, assess your arch, and watch you flex before we recommend anything. Flex and last width have to match your foot and your skiing — no boot sells itself out of the box.
