BLIZZARD Sheeva 9

The Blizzard Sheeva 9 is a women's all-mountain ski, 96mm, built for firm and mixed snow rather than deep powder — the narrow, grippiest end of the three-ski Sheeva line (9 / 10 / 11). It is the women's counterpart to the men's Rustler 9, tuned to hold an edge on hardpack and stay quick and playful in trees and short turns.

The construction is W.S.D. FluxForm: two strips of Titanal run the full length of the ski, one along each edge, tapering toward the tip and tail. That puts the metal where edge grip and damping matter and leaves the ends free to bend. Where the men's Rustler 9 keeps a second piece of Titanal underfoot, the Sheeva uses fiberglass there instead — the reason it comes in about 100 grams lighter per ski (1,780 vs 1,880 g) and bends more easily. Under the metal sits a TrueBlend Free woodcore that blends dense beech underfoot with lighter poplar and paulownia toward the ends, wrapped in a fiberglass-and-carbon laminate over a rockered tip, cambered midfoot and rockered tail.

It is built for intermediate-to-expert women, and lighter-build skiers generally, whose home snow is firm, mixed or variable: groomers, hardpack, trees, the odd soft day. It rewards a skier who drives the tip and uses the rebound. It is not a powder ski — at 96mm the float runs out around six inches of fresh — and it is not built to plow heavy, tracked-out crud at speed. True beginners should look elsewhere; the official rating starts at Intermediate and it wants a confident parallel turn.
