About the Product

The Burton Kids' Smalls BOA is a youth-specific snowboard boot built around one core idea: a kid who can dial in their own gear on the chairlift is a kid who rides better all day. The single-dial BOA Coiler system uses New England rope laces and a mitt-friendly dial that little hands — or gloved hands — can spin up in seconds, delivering consistent, micro-adjustable compression across the foot without the tangles of traditional lacing. Inside, the heat-moldable Youth Imprint Liner does the real fitting work: bring it in, we warm it up, and it shapes to the foot rather than forcing the foot to adapt to a generic shell. An integrated Feetbelt strap and inner lace lock pull the heel back into the pocket and reduce that dead, sloppy feel that makes learning harder than it needs to be. The DynoLITE outsole trims 20% of the weight versus a standard sole, and the Sleeping Bag Reflective Foil underfoot bounces heat back toward the foot — both things that matter when a ten-year-old is spending six hours in the cold and starting to complain about frozen toes by noon. Flex is medium for a youth boot: not a pool noodle, not a stiff race cuff, just enough structure to help an intermediate rider make intentional turns without fighting the boot. One thing to confirm at purchase — this is the standard strap-binding version, not the separate Smalls Step On BOA, so it pairs with any normal kids' snowboard binding.

This boot is built for a kid who has graduated past the bunny hill and is working their way through groomers, starting to explore steeper blue runs, and maybe poking around the park. If your child is still in their very first season on a board, a softer option like the Burton Grom BOA may be a better fit — less boot to fight through while the basics click. On the upper end, if you have a strong teen rider with a developed adult foot shape, they should step into an adult boot that is lasted for their actual foot volume rather than stretching a kids' size. Sizing in kids' snowboard boots is not forgiving — a half-size too long creates heel lift that no liner adjustment can fully fix, and a too-narrow shell will compress the foot regardless of how the laces feel. Come in so we can measure the foot cold and standing, check that heel hold in the heat-molded liner, and make sure the flex isn't fighting what the child is actually trying to do on snow. The Smalls BOA earns its place as a solid, no-drama progression boot — but only when it fits.
