About the Product
The Children of the Gnar is Capita's dedicated youth all-mountain freestyle board, built for kids who have outgrown the pure beginner stuff but are not yet ready for a full adult deck. Its Resort V1 + Flat Kick Tech profile is a hybrid camber shape: traditional camber runs between the feet for pop and edge hold, then transitions to flat sections near the contact points so the board doesn't catch unpredictably when a young rider is still sorting out their weight. The true twin shape with a blended radial sidecut means the nose and tail behave identically — there's no penalty for riding switch, and side hits, small jumps, and park features all feel equally approachable from either direction. Capita built it around a Select 2.0 Core of poplar and beech, tapered between the insert packs to soften the feel underfoot without going noodle-limp. At flex 3.5 it has just enough resistance to generate real pop off a lip but forgives the mistakes that come with growing legs and developing technique. The XXX[Truded] base is extruded — not the fastest wax-holder in the world, but genuinely bulletproof for a board that will see rocks, rails, and the occasional creek crossing on a distracted run.
This board is designed for youth riders roughly in that 70–140 lb range who have the fundamentals locked in and want to start pushing into park features, groomer carving, and light off-piste exploration. If your kid is just learning to link turns, this is more board than they need — start them somewhere softer and shorter and come back to this once they can ride top to bottom without sitting down to rest. It is also not the right call for a teenager who has genuinely outgrown youth sizing and needs a 150+ cm board; at that point, look at Capita's DOA, which delivers the same Capita freestyle DNA in an adult true twin with more torsional stiffness and a proper adult flex range. But for the rider in that progression sweet spot — confident on all groomed terrain, starting to air natural features, maybe taking their first real park laps — the Children of the Gnar is one of the better-designed youth boards on the market for exactly that job.
