The Griffon 13 ID is Marker's long-running freeride workhorse — a full-alpine binding with a DIN 4–13 release range, Triple Pivot Elite toe, and the Inter Pivot 3 freeride heel. That heel design matters on snow: the Inter Pivot 3 gives you genuine vertical elasticity so the binding absorbs chatter and short, sharp impacts before they trigger an unwanted release, which is exactly what you want when you're landing off a cornice or charging through tracked-up chop. The "ID" in the name means Sole.ID — a height-adjustable gliding plate at the toe that lets the binding work correctly with Alpine (ISO 5355), GripWalk (ISO 23223), and touring (ISO 9523) boot soles without any swapping of parts. Brake widths run from 90mm to 120mm, so you can match it to skis from narrower all-mountain shapes up through wide freeride planks. Stand height is 24mm, which keeps you close to the ski rather than stacking you up on a tall platform.

The Griffon 13 is built for aggressive advanced to expert skiers — think someone charging hard off-piste, skiing fast on big-mountain terrain, or lapping a resort with intent. The DIN 4 minimum and 13 maximum covers a wide adult weight and aggression range, but the minimum of 4 is real: a lighter or beginner skier set at DIN 4 on a DIN 4–13 binding is sitting at the bottom of its spring's intended travel, which can mean inconsistent release feel compared to a binding centered lower on the range, like the Marker Squire 11 (DIN 3–11). On the other end, if you're an expert skier needing DIN 14 or higher — a heavy, strong, or very aggressive racer — the Griffon 13 tops out where you need to start, and you'd want to look at the Marker Jester Pro (DIN 6–16) instead. And keep in mind this is an alpine binding, not a touring setup: even though Sole.ID accepts touring boot soles, the Griffon doesn't have a walk mode, so if you actually want to skin uphill you're looking at a different binding altogether. Brake width is a real compatibility issue too: measure your ski's waist and order the matching brake — a 120mm brake on a 98mm-waist ski will hang well past the ski edge and can pre-release or fail to release cleanly. Get that match right at the time of purchase.
