About the Product
The OGASAKA U-PE is an all-mountain ski with an 81 mm waist, and it is the top model in OGASAKA's UNITY line — the series OGASAKA frames as all-situation, and the longest-running name in its current lineup, on sale since the UNITY debuted in 1977. For 2026-27 the outline is a redesign rather than a carryover: the outgoing generation measured 76.5 mm underfoot.
Three UNITY skis are cut to one shape, 119.0-81.0-109.0 mm. Only this one gets an A7178 aluminum sheet, laminated with OGASAKA's special F.R.P over an ultra-lightweight NF wood core, in a sandwich build. The metal is a reinforcing layer inside the laminate, and it is why this is the heaviest of the three: OGASAKA quotes 958 g/m, a per-meter figure for one ski rather than a finished weight. Tip rocker leads into camber underfoot with OGASAKA's Front Lead Function; the sidecut is a Multi Arc Jointed Curve. The length run starts at 153 cm and reaches 174 cm in 7 cm steps, where the U-PC and the U-PH both begin at 146.
OGASAKA's case for the extra width is a ski that carves a groomed run better and copes better where the snow has not been packed down, and that is the job it is drawn for: mixed days, long-radius cruising, open mountain. What it is not: a powder ski, because 81 mm is too narrow for that and E-TURN is OGASAKA's wide line. A third-party tester found its short turns ran a little loose; for that work OGASAKA points to its narrower, carve-first lines, among them KEO'S and TRIUN. It is also the wrong ski for anyone who wants an easy version of this shape. Its two siblings are drawn on this same outline with no metal at all, and OGASAKA's catalog points skiers with less power at the U-PC.
This is a bare ski: add a binding and we will mount it, set it to your boot, and settle the length with you first. The review below covers how it skis and where it lands against the rest of the line.
