About the Product
The Stöckli Montero AX is an 80 mm all-mountain ski, the middle width of the Montero line, built to cover the whole mountain from the groomed piste out. Stöckli pitches it as an any-terrain, any-conditions ski — freshly groomed runs, fresh snow, changeable spring conditions. Every length shares one sidecut, 123-80-112 mm, and the five lengths from 163 to 183 cm carry turn radii from 13.5 m to 17.5 m.
The construction explains the character. It is a Sandwich System build with an All Mountain Core of light poplar and beech, plus aluminum that Stöckli cuts in at the tip and tail — the treatment is called TTF, and Stöckli says it "makes it particularly supple." The ends flex and twist more easily, so the ski rolls into a turn without demanding race-ski commitment, while staying controlled through the middle. The rocker line and the forward-set wide points (ACL and FEC) push more edge into the snow as you tilt the ski, so grip builds with edge angle. Stöckli publishes neither the metal sheet count nor a weight for this model, and we do not quote third-party numbers for either.
It suits piste-first skiers who want one ski for the season: smooth, precise arcs on firm snow, with enough width to handle chop, a few fresh centimeters and spring slop. Independent test panels place it between strong intermediate and expert. It is not a powder ski — at 80 mm, flotation was the weakest mark in its testing — and it is not the short-turn specialist or the hardest-charging ski in the family: the narrower Montero AS owns the slalom-rhythm end, the wider Montero AR the maximum-stability end.
PTO carries the Montero AX two ways: as a system with Salomon's Strive 13D demo binding mounted on the factory pre-drilled plate, or flat for skiers pairing a binding of their own. Bring your boots — we help you settle on length, and a technician handles mounting and adjustment.
