Sweet Protection Trooper 2Vi Mips Helmet

Sweet Protection's Trooper 2Vi Mips is a full-coverage carbon freeride ski helmet with 2-Layer Mips and a planted, goggle-integrated fit. Sweet calls it their most iconic snow helmet, and it sits at the protective end of the brand's ski line — for riders who ski hard terrain and don't want a bulky lid to show for it.

Underneath is Sweet's 2Vi build. The outer is one molded carbon piece — TLC, or Thermoplastic Laminated Carbon Fiber — with wall thickness that varies panel to panel, so the shell holds firm in spots, gives in others. Inside, a multi-density foam liner shaped to the head spreads a hit across a wider area rather than one point.

For angled impacts it adds 2-Layer Mips, a slip-plane inside the shell that gives a little in a crash so the head can turn slightly on its own — the aim being to shed some of the twisting force that would reach the brain. The 2Vi carbon is Sweet's construction and Mips the add-on inside it; neither is a certification. The helmet's ratings are EN 1077 Class B plus ASTM F2040. No helmet removes every risk of injury.

Fit comes from the Occigrip dial, which snugs the rear cradle and adjusts for height so the helmet stays put. The chin strap closes with a one-handed Fidlock magnet, and the Adapted Goggle Fit mates flush with Sweet's own goggles. You also get an internal goggle garage with goggle vents, a washable snap-in liner, pop-out ear pads, and Audio Ready compatibility for Sweet's Sound Chips (sold on their own).

Reach for the Trooper if you ski all-mountain or freeride lines, want full carbon coverage, and like a helmet that sits tight rather than light. It's the wrong pick for gram-counters or anyone chasing airflow — Sweet's Igniter 2Vi is the lighter, airier option at roughly 640 g — and the oval shell doesn't work well for rounder heads.
