About the Product
The Van Deer PRO BOOT is a narrow, race-derived alpine boot built on a 97 mm last and offered in two flexes, 110 and 130. They are the same boot: same shell, same last, same liner, same sole, same $1,300. Only the resistance changes.
Shell and cuff are polyurethane over a hard PU foam bootboard, with dual-screw canting, a removable spoiler, an Ortholite insole, World Cup buckles in 7075 aluminium and a Sidas Powerstrap P2. The liner is Intuition thermoformable foam, tongue included; Van Deer says it re-moulds up to ten times. The sole is short by design — 298 mm at size 26.5, against roughly 305 mm for a standard boot — which Van Deer builds for power transmission. The Grip Force Lifter arrives pre-installed, raising stance height by 5 mm.
Van Deer publishes no ability level; our read from the layup is a boot for an experienced, aggressive skier with a narrow, low-volume foot who wants a race fit at the resort. Take the 130 if you have the mass and technique to bend it; take the 110 if you do not — it is the same race shell with less resistance, not a beginner boot. It is the wrong boot for a wide forefoot or a high instep: shell work adjusts a fit, it does not rebuild a last. Wrong, too, for beginners, intermediates and cruisers — and if you walk any distance from the car, Van Deer lists no walk mode.
One thing must be settled before this boot is skied. Van Deer does not publish the standard its sole is built to — no ISO 5355, no ISO 9523, no GripWalk claim, on the workbook, the product page or the launch story. A sole a binding was not built to accept can interfere with how that binding releases. Have a certified technician confirm the sole against what your binding accepts, and tell them about the 5 mm lifters and a sole about 7 mm short of what the size implies. We measure feet, heat-mould liners and check that sole against your bindings in the shop.
