Van Deer Pro Skis 2027

The Van Deer PRO is a 68 mm on-piste carving ski, built with race-room construction and sold only in long lengths — 168 to 189 cm. Van Deer calls it the ski Marcel Hirscher reaches for on a groomer day, and says outright it is not bound by FIS regulations — which is what let it take a wider sidecut for 26/27 instead of a race-legal one.

The build. An ash-poplar core between two layers of Titanal; Van Deer publishes the count, not the thickness, so neither do we. Then a race-grade base, tune-ready ABS sidewalls, and Hirscher's factory tune on it. New for 26/27 is the plate: a Marker WC Interface 10 mm, fitted, in Van Deer's words, "for more stiffness and stability". The plate is part of the ski: $1,650 buys both; $2,050 adds the matching Marker COMP 12 GW binding.

Length is the ski. The sidecut holds at 115.5-68-97; the radius climbs — 13 m at 168 cm, 16 m at 175, 19 m at 182, 22 m at 189. There is no short, quick PRO. Buy it if you live on hard snow, ski fast, and want a race build that is not a gate ski. We stock 175 cm only, the 16 m arc; the other lengths are a special order.

Who should look elsewhere. Beginners and soft intermediates: the catalogue's "easy to ski" is measured against a World Cup ski, not a cruiser. Anyone who leaves the groomer: 68 mm on a race layup has no float — that is the H-Power 89 or the Freeride skis. Anyone who wants short, tight turns: the H-Power 68 shares the PRO's published shape at every length the two both make, goes shorter, and costs $50 less.
