About the Product
The Van Deer SL WORLD CUP is a slalom race ski for people who run gates: 67.5 mm at the waist, a 12.5 m radius at 165 cm, and four listed bindings, the top one running to DIN 30. It ships on its plate, factory-tuned to Marcel Hirscher's spec, at $100 above the SL — which prints the same sidecut and radius.
Van Deer's race recipe underneath: an ash-poplar solid core, double Titanal, a sintered race base, tune-ready ABS sidewalls. Where it parts from the SL is the plate — a Marker INTERFACE, 14 mm at 165 cm — and two official descriptions of it do not agree. Van Deer calls the WC Interface plate one "for more stiffness and stability." Marker's own hardware pages document an oil-hydraulic damper inside it, plus a softer centre piece. Both are printed; neither is ours to resolve.
Buy it if you run slalom gates and need a release value above 13: no other Van Deer slalom ski takes a COMP 20 or a COMP 30. Not for soft snow — a 67.5 mm race ski has nothing to float on. Not a first carver either; Van Deer aims this one at racers chasing their best times. Long arcs live on the PRO and the GS skis.
In the slalom pair, the decision is the binding. The SL prints the same 118.5-67.5-103.5 and 12.5 m at 165 cm, on the same core and metal, and gets a Corund surface and thicker steel edges this page does not list — for $100 less, with one binding to DIN 13. Flex and layup Van Deer publishes for neither: the shape is the same on paper, the skis we cannot call the same. Below DIN 13, buy the SL. The plate is in the price here — $1,800, or $2,400 on our Marker COMP 16 RD build. We stock 165 cm; the 155 cm and the taller bindings are special orders. System ski: we mount it and set the release value, and DIN is an indicator, not a guarantee.
