Sweet Protection Igniter 2Vi Mips Helmet

The Sweet Protection Igniter 2Vi Mips is an all-mountain ski helmet from Sweet Protection, the Norwegian brand’s do-it-all resort lid. It rides on Sweet’s 2Vi hardshell design and slots into the freeride range one rung under the carbon Trooper 2Vi, giving skiers the brand’s fit and rotational hardware at a friendlier price.

Its outer is a molded polycarbonate hardshell, not the carbon shell of its sibling; the wall is variable in elasticity, thicker or springier where it needs to be, so coverage stays low-profile without turning bulky. Behind it, a multi-density foam core with a ribbed inner cage spreads the shock of a hit. Sweet quotes a bare-helmet mass of 640g, but leaves the measured size off the spec sheet.

It is built to the EN 1077 Class B standard plus ASTM F2040, and Sweet adds a 2-Layer Mips system to damp the rotational loads of an angled hit. The Mips layer is a rotational add-on, while 2Vi is the helmet's own construction — the hardshell itself, not a bolt-on. Neither promises safety; a helmet lowers risk, it does not erase it. Class B is the ear-open alpine rating on the EN 1077 scale, a step down in coverage from the stricter Class A.

Airflow comes through ten penetration-proof ports with adjustable ventilation, plus a goggle dock molded into the shell up top. An OcciGrip rear dial sets both grip and height in seconds with a gloved hand, and a Fidlock magnet snaps the chin strap shut. The pads and liner unclip for a wash, and a chip-ready audio pocket waits for speakers you buy on their own.
