The Mantra 88 sits at the center of Völkl's Mantra family — narrower than the 96mm M7, wider than the new Mantra 84 — and it's built around a poplar/beech wood core sandwiched by two layers of titanal: a continuous sheet below the core running full length, and Völkl's segmented Tailored Titanal Frame above, shaped to vary stiffness and torsional control along the ski's length. For 2026 Völkl shifted slightly more titanal into the midsection and pulled it back from the tip and tail, which makes the ski easier to engage and release at the start and finish of a turn without softening the edge grip you need when it counts. The result on snow is a ski that feels planted and quiet at speed — the titanal kills vibration on hardpack chatter — while the rocker-camber-rocker profile and 3D multi-radius sidecut (three distinct radii built into a single arc: ~29m tip, ~16m underfoot, ~25m tail) give you genuine turn shape variety without asking you to muscle every transition. It wants to run and carve long arcs at real speed, but it won't fight you when you ask for something tighter.

This is an advanced-to-expert ski and it makes no apologies for that. If you're building confidence, working on linked short turns, or skiing mostly groomed blues, the Mantra 88 will outrun your technique and punish hesitation — it's stiff, it's demanding, and it needs committed edge angles to come alive. It also isn't a powder ski: the 88mm waist floats adequately in light snow but the weight and rigidity mean it won't feel playful in deep days. If you want more off-piste range, step up to the M7 Mantra at 96mm; if you're an expert whose home turf is firm groomers and you want the most edge-to-edge snap in the Mantra family, the narrower Mantra 84 is worth a look. The 88 is the one for the skier who genuinely does it all — hardpack mornings, variable afternoons, occasional side-country laps — and has the legs to keep up with it.
