About the Product

The Tecnica Mach1 MV 120 is a four-buckle overlap boot built around a 100mm last and a 120 flex — stiff enough to load an edge hard without any vagueness in the response, but not so punishing that a strong recreational skier can't manage it through a full day. The key to the fit story is that 100mm last: Tecnica calls it MV (mid-volume), and it sits right in the middle of their lineup — roomier through the instep than the 98mm LV, tighter than the HV's 102mm. The C.A.S. (Custom Adaptive Shape) liner is heat-moldable, and both the shell and liner go through Tecnica's in-store thermo process, so the boot can be shaped around your actual foot rather than hoping the padding breaks in eventually. Four micro-adjustable aluminum buckles with a Lift Lock mechanism let you dial fit incrementally across the forefoot and ankle, and the T-Drive spine connector stiffens the cuff-to-shell link so the energy you put in at the ankle actually reaches the ski. GripWalk ISO 23223 soles are standard, which means this boot walks more naturally between the car and the lifts and mates correctly with GripWalk-compatible bindings.

This boot is right for an advanced skier — someone making deliberate, edged parallel turns across groomed and off-piste terrain — who has a medium-volume foot with a moderate instep height. If your foot runs narrow with a low instep, you will float in this shell and lose the precision a 120 flex is supposed to give you; the Mach1 LV 120 at 98mm is the correct call. If your foot is wide or high-volume — bunions, wide forefoot, high arch — the MV shell will create pressure points that no amount of punching fully resolves; look at the Mach1 HV instead. And if you are a strong, heavier expert skier who flexes a 120 before you've even made a turn, this is not enough boot — consider stepping to the Mach1 130. On the other end, if you're still developing your skiing and a 120 flex is working against your technique, a softer boot will serve you better. Come in for a fitting before you decide: flex index and last width must match the foot and the skier, and getting that wrong is a far more expensive mistake than taking the extra time to get it right.
