About the Product

The Mini Grom is Burton's entry point for the youngest riders — sizes run 7C through 13C, which means we're talking toddlers and small kids taking their first real laps. The construction is linerless: instead of a traditional molded liner, Burton maps 3M Thinsulate insulation directly into the shell, keeping the boot low-bulk and easy to pull on without a separate liner to wrestle with. A snow-proof internal gusset seals the lower boot so little feet stay dry. The closure is two oversized hook-and-loop Velcro straps — Burton calls them Dual Zone Shred Ready straps — and they're intentionally large enough that a kid wearing mittens can strap in and out on their own, which matters at that age. The flex is about as soft as a snowboard boot gets — Burton rates it a 1 on its own listing (you'll see it shown as a 2 on some retail sites), and either way the shell and tongue are built to bend easily so small legs can initiate turns without fighting the boot. The DynoLite outsole is 20% lighter than a standard rubber outsole, which matters when the boot itself represents a meaningful fraction of a toddler's body weight. The Room-To-Grow footbed is the standout practical feature: pull it out when the fit gets snug and you gain a full size, with a secondary integrated footbed underneath that maintains cushion. That's one season of growth without buying new boots.

This boot is for kids roughly ages 3–7 who are just starting out — if they're renting and the rental program doesn't fit their foot well, or if you want something consistent across multiple visits, the Mini Grom makes sense. Because it is linerless, there is no heat molding and no custom fit adjustment; the fit is what it is. If your child has a wide or high-volume foot, that can be an issue with no liner to shape around them — come in and we'll size them on the floor. If your kid is already linking turns and moving past pure beginner terrain, they'll want more response than this much softness provides and should be looking at the Burton Grom BOA or the Grom, which step up in structure and closure sophistication. Do not buy this boot for a child who has outgrown the 13C size range — the Mini Grom tops out there and the fit will be wrong from the start. As always, bring the kid in: boot fit for children changes fast, and getting the size right before they're strapped in at the top of a run makes the whole day go better.
