About the Product
The Hawx Magna 110 S GW is Atomic's wide-fit all-mountain boot built around a 102mm last — that extra real estate in the forefoot and instep is the whole point of this boot. A 110-flex index puts it firmly in advanced-intermediate and advancing-skier territory: stiff enough to transmit edge pressure with authority through varied snow, but not so demanding that it punishes you on a long groomered run at the end of the day. Four 6000-series aluminum micro-buckles close the shell progressively, and the 40mm power strap wraps the upper cuff so you can fine-tune shin wrap and forward drive without over-cranking a buckle. Inside, the Mimic Gold liner uses heat-sensitive material that your bootfitter can remold to the exact shape of your foot and ankle — not a one-time generic heat mold but a material that can be reshaped to your anatomy. Atomic's Memory Fit process also allows the shell and cuff themselves to be heat-molded, which makes a real difference for people with wide ankles or a prominent navicular bone. The "S" designates a shorter cuff height compared to the standard Magna 110 GW, which helps skiers with fuller calves or a shorter lower leg avoid the top-of-cuff bite that plagues them in taller boots. Power Shift lets you dial forward lean between 13, 15, and 17 degrees and adjust stiffness, so fit and stance can be tuned together. Pre-mounted GripWalk soles provide genuine rubber traction when you're walking the boot room or a hard-pack parking lot — there is no dedicated walk/hike mode, so the cuff does not unlock for touring.
This boot is built for an intermediate-to-advanced skier with a wide foot and high volume — if you've spent years in boots that leave your pinky toe numb by noon or give you pressure points across the top of the foot, the Magna platform is where to start. The shorter S cuff is the right call if you have a large calf or a shorter tibia; if your lower leg is long and slender, the standard Magna 110 GW may actually fit your cuff better, so it's worth comparing both shells in-person. Who should not buy this boot: if you have a narrow or medium-volume foot (99mm or under), the 102mm last will leave you swimming in shell volume, causing heel lift and sloppy edge response that no amount of liner packing will fix — look instead at the narrower Hawx Prime line, which runs around a 100mm last, or the lower-volume Hawx Ultra at 98mm. If you are an expert-level or aggressive skier who wants a stiffer, more precise drive but still need this width, stay on the wide 102mm last and step up to the Magna 120 S or Magna 130 S — don't jump to a narrow-last boot just to chase flex. And if you're a beginner still building fundamental turns, a 110-flex boot will work your legs harder than necessary and likely leave you fatigued and frustrated. Come in for a fitting; flex and last width have to match your foot anatomy and skiing style, not just your boot size — those are two very different numbers.
