The Black Crows Sato Birdie is a women's all-mountain ski, 88 mm underfoot with a 17 m turn radius on every length, made for carving groomed snow and for wandering just off the trail's edge. Black Crows designed it, in the brand's own words, for "the piste and its surroundings," and that brief shows in how it skis: this is a ski that makes carving easy rather than one that demands speed to work. It carries into 26/27 unchanged, in a deep purple colorway.

The build is deliberately simple: semi-cap construction with ABS sidewalls all around, a poplar wood core and a fiberglass laminate — no metal, no carbon. That keeps the flex at what Black Crows calls median: tolerant, progressive, and easy for lighter skiers to bend. A progressive front rocker and an early rise tail shorten the running contact so the ski pivots and starts turns willingly, while classic medium camber underfoot keeps a real edge on groomed snow. The slightly short sidecut favors frequent, shorter turns over long arcs.

It suits women progressing from intermediate skiing through, honestly, mellower expert skiing — an independent test of this ski found easy initiation and a smooth, energetic character on groomers. It is not a ski for hard chargers who want metal-laminate grip and damping on very firm snow at speed. With a directional shape — and a flotation rating that Black Crows itself puts at only intermediate — it is not a powder tool either, and the early rise tail is not a twin tip, so it has no park ambitions.

Within the women's line, the Octo Birdie is the narrower, more piste-specialized carver, and the Camox Birdie, at 97 mm, is the pick when off-piste days start to outnumber piste days. The women's run tops out at 167.2 cm; taller skiers can step across to the men's Sato, which carries the same published geometry to 179.3 cm.
