If your kid is outgrowing the toddler dome and you need something that actually fits a range of growing heads, the Glide Jr. is where Smith starts for youth. It runs from YXS (48 cm) through YM (59 cm) — the widest youth size spread in the Smith lineup — with a dial fit system so they can snug it down themselves without pulling off a glove. The in-mold shell bonds the outer layer directly to the EPS foam, which keeps the weight down to about 350 g. MIPS is built in: the low-friction liner layer lets the helmet shift slightly on oblique impacts to reduce rotational force transferred to the brain. Certifications are ASTM F 2040 and CE EN 1077:2007 Class B — standard alpine coverage, not a freestyle or park-specific rating.

Ventilation is fixed — you can't open or close the vents — but AirEvac channels air through to the goggle foam, which genuinely helps cut lens fog when paired with Smith goggles. The plush liner is removable for washing. There's a goggle strap lock on the back that keeps the strap out of sight when goggles sit over the helmet. No visor. Who should skip it: if your kid is a serious park rider who wants a harder-shell helmet, look at the Smith Holt Jr. — it's an injection-molded ABS hardshell designed for youth park and all-season use and it fits youth sizing. Just know that the Holt Jr. doesn't include MIPS, so you're trading rotational-impact protection for shell durability. There's no current Smith youth helmet that gives you both hardshell and MIPS — it's one or the other. The Glide Jr. is the right call if MIPS matters to you and your kid still has room to grow into it. It's a resort day-use helmet built for kids who are still growing.
