About the Product

The Look SPX 13 GW is Look's workhorse all-mountain binding built around two pieces of genuine engineering: a Full Action toe with 45mm of lateral elastic travel and 180-degree multi-directional release, and an SPX heel with 27mm of vertical elastic travel. In practical terms, that elastic margin is what separates a binding that chatters you loose on a rough groomer from one that holds you through it — the SPX 13 absorbs impact and deformation without pre-releasing, then returns energy back into your boot rather than dissipating it. The DIN range runs 4–13, which covers a wide swath of skiers from lighter intermediates up to heavier, more aggressive advanced skiers who need the upper end of that scale. Boot compatibility is dual-standard: it accepts both traditional Alpine soles (ISO 5355) and GripWalk soles (ISO 23223), so if you're on a modern boot with a rockered GripWalk sole you don't need to look elsewhere. Brake widths run B80, B90, B100, and B110 — match the brake to within about 15mm of your ski's waist width. Weight comes in at 1110g per half-pair, which is on the heavier side of this category; it's not a weight-weenie binding.

This binding is well-suited for confident intermediate through aggressive advanced skiers who spend most of their time on-piste or in all-mountain terrain and need retention and shock absorption over light weight. That said, there are clear cases where it's the wrong call: if your DIN setting sits above 13 — heavy skiers, very aggressive Type III skiers, or expert big-mountain riders — step up to the Look Pivot 14 GW or Pivot 18, which offer higher DIN ceilings and the Pivot's turntable heel for even longer elastic travel and deeper retention. On the other end, if your calculated DIN setting is in the 3–6 range, the minimum-DIN-4 floor on the SPX 13 is not a problem in the middle of the range, but a lighter skier or beginner who genuinely belongs on a DIN 3 would be better served by the Look NX 10 GW or NX 11 GW, which are tuned for lower release values and easier entry. The SPX 13 GW also does not accept touring or tech boot soles — if you're mixing resort and backcountry in the same boot, this is not your binding; look at a dedicated MNC (multinorm) option instead.
